Feds ??

What do they have to do with anything :-)

If the cigarette boat guys can go fast, why can't the guys without the cigarette boat wallet...

yami has a big bar to jump and rxp can safley make 250 hp's

he 45 cap was a gentlemans agreement then it was bumped to 65 as the hull were more capable to handle the speeds. it has never been law but rather an agreement between manufactures and coast guard. some states have set limits but i personally have never seen a radar on our lake patrol boats. i have seen tickets written for to fast for conditions and no wake zones but that is about it. hope this helps.

Word from--------. Said wait till next year for Yamaha's answer

When I said who would break 70, I meant an average ski from that model line, not a (somewhat) rare example that can do it...

That being said, I have GPS'd my RXP 3 different times at 3 different lakes @ speeds from 69.9 to 70.7
It was stock.

 DaveG posted: 4/26/2005 6:34:14 PM

A lot of people never believed there was an agreement. A lot more did not like the fact of an agreement.
But, say what you will, there are a whole bunch of worse things than a gentlemans agreement on a speed cap. All it's gonna take is a few people getting killed on one of the fast stock skis and our friendly federal govt will step in. Personally, I'd rather see a speed cap than, say, a national water speed limit or a national boating liscence or even an outright ban. The entire sport alreday has a bad rep and I don't think it will take much for the govt to think up an excuse to start regulating and, worse yet, taxing us.

The speed limit depends and where you are. There are a lot of places that it doesn't apply.

 speed4sale posted: 4/26/2005 5:49:01 PM

most lakes are not using radar , the speedcap was a gov to manufactures hand shake that said lets work together . they are not keeping there word

 speed4sale posted: 4/26/2005 5:43:39 PM

fire i dont dis credit your 70 , hell i hope i get a good one that will do that . some of us are not so lucky

 rx4pain posted: 4/26/2005 3:46:49 PM

It's not like the 276 horsepower limit set in Japan...and you could have gotten a speeding ticket in '91 because the lake laws in WA have been 45 mph as long as I can remember.

 seadoo02xp posted: 4/26/2005 3:34:51 PM

i dont think it is a law just an agreement that has obviously been broken

 ds1 posted: 4/26/2005 3:27:27 PM

ALL OF YOU MISSED THE POINT! About 8 years ago there was a speed cap of 65. I don't care who claims what. What I want to know is how and what will the LAW makers do to US as a whole! Stop your speed wars for a minute and think about a ticket when your doing 70+ on any PWC.

 FireFox posted: 4/26/2005 3:05:11 PM

Sure it's true that most run only 68 but i've seen it myself a true 70mph stock rxp raced up against a good buddy with my 68mph rxp and as suprised as i was with similar gas same trim and our weights i was going the usual 68.5 on gps while he pulled cleanly ahead going slightly over 70. Whether you choose to believe or not there are rxps, that stock, run 70 even ask gp.

 speed4sale posted: 4/26/2005 2:58:55 PM

rxps as a fleet run 66 to 68 , ultra's in most magazine test show 62 to 65 , harry klem shows thr ultra at 62 . the 98 gsxl with perfect stock tune and fresh motor is in real numbers 62 ( radar ) on a good day and flat water but slows drastically if chop is introduced . . there is huge differance in 6 to 8 mph over the 60 mph mark . the rxp has raised the bar for stock craft and the gpr guys will have to move over very soon . the fourstrokes are here to stay and have proven unmatched power

say bye posted: 4/26/2005 2:45:59 PM

mgo, you probably have seen 70mph on your rxp with a gps. i have abolutely no reason to doubt you. there are things that will trick a gps. i do know for a fact that the fastest stock rxp would be at the shoot-outs and they clocked at 68.
in 99 when the ultra came out it was radared at 66 and change. it was also a perfectly prepped boat as most where lucky to get 65.
don't get me wrong the rxp is the king of the hill and are really flexing some muscle with upgrades but i very seriously doubt that any stock rxp is capable of a true 70 mph unless it is with the current. as an honorable mention i can get a gps to show 70 on a stock ultra and i assure you that is wrong also.

Hey Performance,
Since the RXP is S/C, I would think that should overcome most of the lost performance due to the atmospheric pressure loss.

 rx4pain posted: 4/26/2005 10:39:42 AM

Funny how the GPS comes out with the RXP to show that it's a tenth or two below 70 but when talk of Yammi or Kawi breaks out it's just assumed that their speeds are legit. Just an observation. For the record, my son's '98 GSXL has a peak speed of 71 stock - that's what his display reads and that's good enough based on the Ultra being a "true" 67-68 mph ski.

 800X-4rider posted: 4/26/2005 8:30:17 AM

who cares... 68mph 70mph. What the!!! RXP IS the fastest production watercraft this year. PERIOD! Next year maybe Kawasaki maybe Yamaha.. or even Honda. I'm curious though.. how long can you go 70MPH in a straight line before it becomes mundane? Frankly, I never want the fastest watercraft.. I want the quickest! Where do you guys ride for that to be fun??? Come on.

if there was a 70+ rxp stock it would have been at the muscle craft shoot outs. you can believe that. just not the case.

Sea Doo has already done it with the rxp. While it is not true that many of them run 70 there are a lucky few that have stock rxps running 70 and even a few slightly above that.

 Back-n-Black posted: 4/25/2005 12:47:18 AM

Wasnt Sea Doo the first to hit 60 with the 97 GSX Limited?

Then Kawi with the Ultra 150 hit 65?

Wonder who will be the first to hit 70? Id guess Kawi.

 performancepwc posted: 4/25/2005 12:19:05 AM

I had a 2002 ultra 150 that always gps 65-66 mph when it was stock. I modded it to 71 mph keeping it a single pipe ski before I traded it off for my RXP. Im still trying to get my RXP to hold the 70 mph with not a lot of $ invested. The RXP only went around 66.7 when it was stock. But I also live over 1700 ft above sea level now so that should slow me down at least 2 mph.

 performancepwc posted: 4/25/2005 12:12:30 AM

What do you mean seadoo again? Kawi broke that 64 mph cap back in 1999 with the ultra. The ultra was a true 67-68 mph ski for the early 99 models. For some reason kawi kept on slowing them down. The ultra was the king for for speed for the last five years until the rxp came out. I bet the rxp wont be the king that long. Remember these speeds are for STOCK gps speed not modded ones or on the dreamometers.

Next year I bet we do.

 ds1 posted: 4/24/2005 10:18:03 PM

So now that SeaDoo has broken the cap again, first was with the 91 XP, now the RXP. I have yet to see Kawy and Yamma put out. What will happen? Has anyone heard? Will the Feds get tough or are we free to have production boats go 70+?
