 Couch_Driver posted: 2/29/2004 7:44:49 PM

Hey Jayz

I have a 96GTX and I love it. Newer machines are awesome too. I love my 96 for the 787 motor and the "smaller" 3 seat hull compared to the new ones. The 787 is a very good motor that hasn't had the problems that the 951 has had. A little less horses 110 compared to 130...but in the smaller hull it doesn't seem make as much of a difference. I'm still slower than the 951 most of the time, but only very very slightly. I'm only 135lbs so if a 951 has a 200lb + dude on in a can almost always smoke em and I can usually turn a tighter corner. If you do buy one though...stick with Sea-doo.

 JayZ posted: 2/29/2004 10:48:33 AM

for 10K you can get a GTX-DI (3 seater) or maybe even a 4-TEC that is a couple of years old.

if this is your first PWC, maybe consider something a little less $$$ to see if you are going to enjoy it (although i'm sure you will). if you are looking at 3 seaters, 1996GTX - new would be good. be weary of any 1998GTX unless it has a new motor.

Iam looking to buy a PWC , new or used

Just wondering everyones thoughts on the best starter PWC (3 seater, speed not important)
Iam located on Chemong very close to Jerry D
See you on the water SOON

Please Add me to your E-mail list. 14jay@rogers.com I live in Whitby, ride a lot in Balsam, scugog, and Ontario. We also do a lot of Launches in Port and go through 3 lift locks up to Balsam. Last couple of years I had a Red 2000 Ultra 150 and my buddy Jeff (windsurfnut) has Blue 01 Ultra plus other friends with doo's, we spanked a few over the past couple years and now its time to turn the tables, if you can't guess my new ski I bought the first day of the boatshow in toronto (maybe my user name gives it away - Green one). Let the damn ice melt.

 Dax posted: 2/26/2004 11:24:04 PM

Jerry, yes I know them well. Not much to explore PWC-wise, just a nice trip from Pigeon to Catalina. Now, in a fishing boat or canoe, then there might be some exploring to do.

So Dax,

Do you know big bald and little bald lakes well? Those are two areas that I have never actually explored

North end of Pigeon Lake, Nogies Creek , Trailer Park closest to the 36 hwy bridge.

 Jerry_D posted: 2/25/2004 10:19:36 AM

Dax, yeah I ride an 01 Ultra 150 (Blue/Silver), the may two four week-end would be great, or even the week-end before if possible. I usually have my ski in the water by late April (assuming the ice is out on the lake that is). I am looking forward to it.

We will have to meet this year Jerry, maybe the May long w/e. or the one before, Frank when does your park open? I'll be opening the trailer this year, probably the w/e before the long one. Jerry what do you ride, wasn't it an Ultra150 ?

 Jerry_D posted: 2/24/2004 11:13:50 AM

Ah, I found a map of the area, and I know where this place is now. Looks like an interesting ride to say the least. Might be fun, if I had a chart of the area to see where the hazards are.

Another nice spot is "Crocodile Bills" resort/bar in Catalina Bay in thenorth east corner of Big Bald Lake(off Pigeon). Its a nice cruise with a patio bar right on the water, you can sip a cold one and admire your Doo-doo.

 XPlimited posted: 2/23/2004 11:52:56 PM

Ah yes who could forget that lake, had my front bumper ripped off in 4 foot chop there last summer, but other then that the boat held up well, took quite a pounding. Not bad for a 4yr old.

If you look at a map of Pigeon Lake, in the north east corner there are 2 ajoining lakes,Little Bald and Big Bald. Catalina Bay is at the extreme north east corner of Big Bald. Very nice ride, lots of shoals though...

 Jerry_D posted: 2/23/2004 5:31:30 PM

This might sound a little lame, but, for some kawartha lakes (aka Stoney) buy a chart!!!! There are some very nasty things that can hide under the water. Our skis don't draw much, but rocks that we do hit can still hurt

No Xp, I am not really that serious yet. If something good comes up tho, I will probably jump on it. I will look for the following summer tho, as that is when the Warranty on the Ultra is up, so I can start playing with the engine

Jerry D

 XPlimited posted: 2/21/2004 11:30:40 PM

A DI eh JD? no kiddin, i thought you weren't looking for another boat this year?
More lies i take it! lol

 Jerry_D posted: 2/21/2004 1:19:46 PM

I will probably chaneg out the heads maybe this year or next. The only problem is that I tend to take the ski on longer rides where higher octane fuel isn't available on the water. I really don't want to curb my range for a few more MPH. But then again I am looking for a DI ski at the moment. If I can find one, it will become my longer voyage tool, and the Ultra will soon find itself with triple pipes and all the toys.

Jerry D

 TWO2CURUPT posted: 2/20/2004 6:41:20 PM

YA I know those ultras are pretty damm fast...awsome numbers for a stock ski too..that is why I tried to avoid them last year.unless there was a 1 foot chop..then I usually had no problem with them..only downfall of that boat...they do have an awsome powerplant though..you intersted in bringigng it up a notch jerry or do you plan on leaving it stock?? cause 70 is very obtainable even on a strict budget..your call..

 Jerry_D posted: 2/20/2004 11:01:44 AM

Ah, a Cal-Jet prepared boat eh? I think I am going to have to give Mike a call today to find out just how fast those skis can go. FYI my last run of last year saw a two way average of 66 per GPS. And I haven't yet touched the engine. That is with my 165 lb frame sititng rather relaxed on the ski. This could be interesting.

Jerry D

 CDNrider posted: 2/19/2004 9:20:26 PM

have you ran it since you got it back from cal-jet

 TWO2CURUPT posted: 2/19/2004 9:18:49 PM

 TWO2CURUPT posted: 2/19/2004 8:22:30 PM

Hey jerry sorry it took so long..last year i gps'd it at 61.9 mph with a full tank of fuel...and my 245 lb frame...I have lost close to 40 lbs scince then...and the key word is last year...this year is a wee bit different..

 NicePackage posted: 2/19/2004 6:30:24 PM

What is it about piped boats that make them a pain?

I am not afraid of wrenching at all. However reliability is important.

 XPlimited posted: 2/19/2004 5:11:45 PM

you might want to stay away from high mod boats if you are not into wrenching after every ride, especially for the recreational. The ultra is reliable speed with once a season service, piped boats can be a pain.

 NicePackage posted: 2/19/2004 3:08:36 PM

Jerry, this one is pretty fast already. had carbs, pipe, intake grate, all that stuff.

I'd love to wait till spring, but prices will go up. We all know it, especially where we live. It'll piss me right off to pay more for the same machine. Looking forward to rides.

 Jerry_D posted: 2/19/2004 2:57:25 PM

Hey Wes, the Ultra doesn't need the Shredmaster. It just makes the ski cut through the chop a little better. The SPX is a nice ski, but it has no range. The fuel tank is very small. But they can be fast. Just wait till spring until you get the chance to ride them both back to back.

Jerry D

 Jerry_D posted: 2/19/2004 2:55:07 PM

Sorry Two2curupt, I swear I thought I read somewhere that you are running an RXP this year. Alrighty then. I will take you on. Looser pays for the fronions. Or frings (as I think they are called) I am not so worried about a GTX SC. I have run against one of those before, and managed to stay in front of him. Just out of curiosity, have you GPS'ed your ski, and if so, what were the numbers?

Jerry D

 TWO2CURUPT posted: 2/19/2004 2:07:51 PM

Hey I run an 03 gtx supercharged...not an rxp...and I will be looking forward to you buying my lunch...

 NicePackage posted: 2/19/2004 2:06:07 PM

I don't know that I am getting an Ultra....

I rode the SPX last year and liked it. The Ultra will cost more than a modded SPX and the Ultra still needs the shredmaster and a few other things.

 Jerry_D posted: 2/19/2004 1:49:13 PM

I thought it was a very generous offer. You didn't think I was going to buy lunch for the slow pokes did you Wes?? :) Hey, what are you worried about, your Ultra might be able to squeak by mine in a race.

How bad are we eh? Just itching to get on the water. None of you guys sled at all? Most of my friends do, but something about the cold, I hate it. Besides how many bikinis have you seen on the back of a sled?

Anyhow glad to see that there are still some people in the area to ride with. Seems most of my friends have either decided to get married and had to sell the toys or went on to other things.
I'm anxious to get back out on the water. This winter is dragging on way to long. Although I am lucky enough to be headed back down to sunny St.Martin for some riding in a few weeks.
Still trying to decide if I should sell the 02 XP and buy an RXP.
So lets keep in touch, everyone and do some trips this summer. I'm on Rice lake, the ride up the Otanabe is a good one if anyone is interested.
Some if the guys here met up with me at the end of the season for a little blast on Scugog,, we'll have to try and get some more out for another round.

Ok, this sounds like a good plan. Add my email address to any group list

I would be eager to see how my Ultra stacks up against the new RXP. I am right on the water in Chemong lake. I have plenty of dock space at my place, I could even let my cottage serve as a staging ground for this little event. Keep me posted

Hey XP!! Lets get that ski of yours back up and running. I would hate for you to be forced to ride the RX.

Great XP, I'll be looking forward to it,
Have you checked out Surf Paradise for riding gear?
I bought some PFDs from them and checked out prices for some gear, not bad from what I've learned so far!

Sounds like a good deal. Always up for meeting new riders, we'll definatly put something together in the warm. There are a few of us around up there its just hard findin each other.
But to Craiger1, may two four sounds like a plan, i've only got a shorty wet suit but i may invest in something warmer.

I was thinking of the may two four weekend, by then I'll have my RXP broken in!

Hey Cdn

Yah the 4tec was her size, your/her S/C is just to big to handle. At least that is what we talked about. See 4 women in the back of a van @ half hour ride we covered just about every topic two men could have in 5 mins. j/k.
How is that Nav in these snow conditions.

Hey hey, now were talkin my territory. I ride out of upper Buckhorn but i am always in Pigeon and Chemong. I ride with Jerry D, i'm sure he's in too. Sounds like gettin a big ride together would be an adventure. Loose the ice and we'll be fine.

I'm in, just say when.

NicePackage, why is age a state of mind?
I like to think that age is a state of mind because I've known people who are young in years but old in their take on the world and older people with a zest for life!
If there is one thing I've learned, never judge a book by it's cover, people are people, and if you share an interest in common, it dosn't matter what their age or back ground is,enjoy each others company and learn from each other, the world just got a little smaller!
I'm 47, turned that corner Jan.29th.
Cheers, from a fosil !

My place is in Fenelon Falls, and I ride a lot from Pickering on Lake Ontario.

As for an initation, bring it on girl! As long as it dosn't envolve small farm animals, we'll leave that for the members south of the border! LOL

Are any board members from the Kawartha Lakes Region interested in getting together for some rides this year?
I'd be interested in meeting up with some fellow members in Southern Ontario as well!
Age is only a state of mind, all are welcome!
