what tip of shut off switch did you use
Thanks for the info

Friend did put a switch on 2 of his, works fine. Only problem that could develop is if you introduce excessive resistance into the circuit. Use a good switch, decent size quality wire and lugs. I would solder the connections but it might not be necessary.

I put a battery shut off switch on my 2000 GTX RFI to fix a similar problem as yours.

I have replaced the rectifier twice in my DI. It sounds familiar.

but I don't have a way to check the voltage.

voltmeters are about $10 at harbor freight

The regulator/rectifier is a VERY commonly replaced component on the RFI and DI watercraft...

They are about $175..Do what LB said and check your voltage when it is running..as long as it is over 13.2 but not over 14 your ok

I was told by a SeaDoo mech (heard he wasn't a very good one) that it was a stator / rectifier combination, but would cost like $900. The rectifier sounded like something I could do myself, but I don't have a way to check the voltage.

MIne would run ok,the RFI seems to be hard on electrical systems.

so did you have the issue with power? my ski won't go faster than about 30 mph.

 LB posted: 9/3/2012 6:32:22 PM

Check the voltage with it running,i believe it should be about 13.2-13.4 volts,iv'e replaced my rectifier. twice

I have a 2001 GTX RFI that I bought brand new and have had excellent luck with. Two years ago it started eating batteries and flashing 12v low all the time. I kept putting batteries in and finally ended up having to charge it each time I wanted to ride for a few hours. Now it will only run at half speed. Is this the rectifier? Would that be an easy fix or is it the stator as well?
Thanks everyone!
