I had a pair of the GTX-DI's a few years ago, and i had the same problem. Turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensors (TPS) needed adjusting. I took it to a Sea-Doo dealer, they hooked it up to BUDS and adjusted as necessary, and never had an issue again.

I also had an exhaust leak similar to what seadoo junkie described and it ended up being a loose hose clamp on the exhaust tube. Tightened it up and no more issues. It was easy for me to find, i just looked for the source of the black soot from the exhaust.

Maybe you have done this already....but if not, it may help.

Go to the menu on the left side of this page. Click on tech specs. Goto PWC 2001. Click on operators guide. Goto page 101 of 124. It talks about beeps and tones. This may get you started in the right direction. GL.

I did not put any shims. I buy about 6 plugs and keep trying different ones until they line up the way that I want them to, then return the others. Before I was just getting the symptoms described below. Now the maint. light keeps coming on as soon as I run the ski and there is a long tone. Isn't there a way to count the flashes of the light to determine the reason for the alarm?

Personally I wouldn't index the plugs.. I assume you're putting a shim/spacer in there to get them to point the right way.. I'd crank them in as they were designed to be in.

I cleaned the plugs with acetone and a brass brush and indexed them to face the injectors. I will buy and index new plugs. I also cleaned Raves. Inspected rave hoses all the way back to the solenoid. No exhaust leaks. I tried a few runs with both seats off and saw no leaks and it ran the same. If I back off for a few seconds below the throttle position that it acts up at and then hit it, it goes normally and then surges. I think the fuel filter must be flowing poorly. If not I tend to think the fuel pump cannot keep up. It feels like it starves for fuel when this happens. I doubt that it is the voltage regulator because it charges fine and shows no total loss symptoms. But not all rectifiers cause that to happen when they go bad I realize. Just the most common issue linked to a bad regulator. I have no alarms or tones when the problem occurs. Any way to test fuel pressure? I have a pressure guage to check air and fuel if anyone knows how to adapt a shrader valve to that rail. Anybody know what normal air and fuel pressure should be at the rail?

Ck rectifier too, my 96xp did that with a bad rectifier. At half throttle it would go up to 16 volts. Meter your battery with the ski running. Rev it and see if your volts jump above 15

My '01 GTX DI did the same around the same time. Turned out I had cracks in my muffler and the engine was breathing in exhaust with the fresh air. The engine did not like it. Of course, another clue was the black soot that started appearing in the hull. The dealer took the muffler out, welded the cracks, and reinstalled it. $75.

The machine now has 325hrs on it and the muffler is still working well.

Another place to check would be the red or black boot from the end of the exhaust pipe to the muffler. Sometimes that rubber boot gets a hole at the bottom and allows exhaust to enter the hull also.

I have a 2001 gtx di. Just hit 100 hours. Runs pretty well up until about 4300 rpms and above. It wants to open up and hit high rpm at wot but surges and almost bogs. It feels like a fuel problem. I can't tell if it is an injector issue or a fuel delivery problem or possibly water in the fuel. I will take a fuel sample to rule out water. Is there a shrader valve on the rail where I can test fuel pressure? And what should I have for pressure? Thanks! Charlie
