Could have been that the bad rectifier ruined your battery by overcharging it. In any case, super glad you solved the problem. Enjoy your ski!

thanks for the help, turns out might have been a bad battery that was discharging so it looked like it was ok when checked. One new rectefier and a battery and the ski is back on the water. Thanks to those who took a shoo both were right. stay safe

yes you can just unhook and rehook the new one, i just changed the batteries in both my skis, took about 15 minutes total... check your local parts houses that are open on sunday, most have powersports batteries, i got mine at the pepboys parts store. they had the exact match listed for my skis

Thanks is it just a matter of unhooking and do the change. Do want to mess anything up electically

Just ask whether or not the battery is pre-charged or not. Some of them claim to be ready to use right out of the box. The best way is to put the new battery on a trickle charge until it is fully charged. If you are still seeing 12V High after changing the battery, I would have it checked out. Always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Forgot to ask if I can find a battery on sunday is it a matter of just unhooking connectors and put the new one in.thanks

I suppose it could be the stator over charging the battery? I haven't heard of that happening before...I thought for sure the rectifier would take care of 12V High. I suppose it never hurts to throw a new battery in there. If the message goes away, but then returns, then it would follow that your battery is getting overcooked by the stator. I'm not an electrical expert, but there are some very knowledgeable doo heads on here that are. I'm sure someone will offer some suggestions for you. Hang in there!

put in a new regulator still shows flashes 12v l then when you run rpms up above 4500 i get 12vh it is not constant but shows and battery flashes once in a while this is over 5min run, help. battery shows 17.4 on meter, could battery be shot? afraid to run and my daughter has a friend at cabin. all the fuses are good any suggestions will be apprecited if i have to pull it out on monday i will, thanks for any help.

I mean dielectric grease. Sorry for the misspell! It is a grease commonly used at electrical connections to provide a barrier against dirt and moisture. Its really cheap, and you can even get little packets of it at the autoparts store for next to nothing.

dialectric? can not say I know what that is. thanks for the help. think I will pick up a recitifier regulator on the way to lake today,{ $160.00 insurance} incase it is not the fuse.

 JustDooIt posted: 7/30/2010 4:57:07 PM

I had recurring problems with the 30 amp fuse in my 04 RXP. That's the fuse that relays power to the charging system. I started seeing 12V LOW on my display. The current was arching at the fuse due to the female end of the wire harness not making tight enough contact on the fuse. So I would replace these blackened fuses any time I started to see 12V LOW and the message would go away. But I think your problem is not that because you are getting too much juice, not too little. Can't hurt to look though. If you replace, remember to put dialectric on the metal fuse tips.

thanks

yes it could cook the water out of the battery and if to high could hurt electronics

 prhodes posted: 7/30/2010 3:30:27 PM

thanks, do you know if I can run the ski a hour or two with out recking anything if the regulator is bad? I will pick up some fuses first but the shop will be closed before i am able to volt check the machine if i do need a new regulator..

 idoodou posted: 7/30/2010 3:21:03 PM

if you read though the seadoo shop manual you will find there is no real testing of the rectifier just what go though it you can how ever test what comes in and out 4-tec's use a 3 phase stator each phase produces about 75 ac volts the rectifier converts this to 12v dc one important thing to check is the two 30amp fuses this is what mine ended up being one of the fuse holders was bad causing a bad contact to fuse blade which was burnt black but did not blow the fuse hope this helps

one more question, i found a regulator for $160.00, i was told you buy it you keep it, even if i don't use it. I have yet to check with volt meter so would hate to buy before i check. can i run the ski if the regulator is bad for a hour or two of sporadic use?, maybe unsnap regulator, right now it is a sporadic problem so it may not be totally gone. thanks

thanks your the best

It should be in the front of your ski, above the fuel tank. It is a small black rubber "box", located approximately beneath your steering column.

 prhodes posted: 7/29/2010 10:08:34 AM

thanks i will see if I can find it and get it out. but as my wife reminds me often, I have been a good cop thirty plus years not a mechanic!

 JustDooIt posted: 7/29/2010 8:56:38 AM

If you have the full shop manual for your ski, it should show the procedure. It is very accessible and is really just a matter of unplugging/unbolting, and then doing the same in reverse with the new one. I think you might run the risk of damaging your battery if you keep going like that...someone else on here might know more specifically. If your voltage is not being properly regulated, imagine this is the power being fed to your computer and for all of your electrical components throughout the ski. You are taking a chance. If it was me I would just get the part and change it, especially since it is easy to do. It should be covered under your warranty, but if you bring it in in the middle of summer, you might wait a while to get it back. See if they will let you bring in the bad one and exchange it for a new one as warranty. Depends on the dealer if they will allow it. Good luck.

Thanks, do you know if the pdf/file/manual show how it is done/changed or would you suggest bringing it in. Also would using it for a few hours this weekend hurt anything, it is running fine so far. thanks again, and what a great resource for the novice and experienced. ,

Another poster on this forum recently got that error message. Usually a 12 V High message means your rectifier regulator is faulty. It is an easy part to replace and should solve your problem. That poster wrote back that they replaced the rectifier and it was the correct solution. Good luck, and let us know if this helps.

First time owner of a Sea Doo RXP 150 2007. we bought it with 43 hours very nice machine. At 48 hours the 12v hi bat flashes a few times and battery icon blinks, everything appears to be good other than that. machine does have original battery. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help and this site.
