ahh see I mention the letters "GP" and the man cometh...lol. Gotta tell ya Glenn I can't wait to get my L1 back from you guys. I bet Armin and Rob can't wait till I go away either :-) I can be a royal pain I know. I just have this damn meticulous nature I can't shake...drives me nuts even.
Hey GP while you're here visiting me is it possible to overfill the counterbalance oil? If I top off to bottom of threads am I ok?

Sea-Doo does indeed call for the Pump-Oil.
BUT, we have seen both used with no apparent
problem.

I'm sure that's prob fine. Service manual states 40ml SAE 30. I only stated the spec change because in my board search I found a post from GP where he stated that seadoo changed the spec and all 951's to use the pump oil. Just seemed strange to see them switch from a straight weight to a gear oil.
Where you do you keep your level?

As far as I have seen only the DIs used the gear oil (the cases are a LOT hotter on a DI).

I have used 30HD Pennzoil for years with no problems.

So you can't overfill it? How about the oil requirement? Not trying to sound cheap but was wondering about an alternative that I can get locally...not sure but a shot in the dark..Mobile 1 75w-90? Although I think that's a GL-4 and if Seadoo now specs to use their pump oil that's GL-5. There is a Mobile 1 HD Plus 80w-90 that is GL-5 and maybe could be bought locally. If it's a lesser product than I'd rather order it online and wait. I've got a number of things apart right now waiting for my Level 1 to return and I want to get some of them buttoned up. Seems like every damn time I do something...ohh no found issue gotta order...gotta wait. Saturday cleaned my Rave valves..damn it all found a slight air leak in one and turned out to be an O ring tear..yup got that right in my back pocket.

Counterbalance shaft oil,...my favorite subject. In my opinion, you cannot have enough oil in there. I would fill that baby to the top. I checked mine last year after 50 hours of use and was down to my last 8 ml from 60. I am maintaing mine every year.

I know this has been asked many times over as I've done a board search but couldn't get the answers I was looking for. I decided to check this level and a few things I did turn up seem to indicate that the oil level should be just to the base of the threaded hole. I stuck the end of a zip-tie in till it bottomed out...nothing. I went in at an angle and had to go in about 2 inches until I got anything. Oil was very clean looking but seemed to have an odor of gas and carbon...hell everything in there has that odor...lol. So my question is does this level sound low? Other posting I found indicate perhaps the level is not where I'm thinking it should be...service manual damn vague in this regards. I was wondering if I should top this off to the thread level I mentioned? Can the counterbalance oil be overfilled? Also if I top this off I've read seadoo changed the spec from SAE 30 to synthetic pump oil in all 951's. Is that the best that can be used? Suppose I could just order it online and wait as I wait for my Level 1 to return from PPG...hey Armin how's it coming? I was just wanting to get this one out of the way and thought there might be something else I can add instead of the pump oil. Hate getting a bunch of partially completed projects in there, gotta start a to-do-list so I don't screw something up.
